(RI §411469)

Public policy for the voluntary return of migrants. - Pilar Charro Baena y Carmen Sánchez Trigueros

Due to the economic recession, Spain has recently witnessed a process of implementation of measures and instruments to solve (sometimes artificially) the problem of unemployment among foreign workers. It is unquestionable that unemployment is more noticeable among the immigrant population that has been occupying jobs in sectors where the crisis has been more aggressive. In addition, the immigrant population has also more difficulties to find other jobs. While the return process is really complex, it is also true that the current economic situation has favoured the voluntary return regulation as a mechanism to fight the recession in Spain. The voluntary return regulation consists of assistance or incentive for the return of immigrants to their homeland.

I. Introductory matters.- II. Types of return.- III. Promotion of voluntary return programmes for foreigners.- IV. Spanish measures for voluntary assisted return.- V. The return of immigrants and its effects on the residence and/or work permits.- VI. Support measures for return programmes promoted by home countries.- VI. Bibliography.
