The dawn of geminism in Spain: The oeuvre of Concepción Arenal - Sara Moreno Tejada

El derecho a la igualdad ha constituido históricamente una de las más importantes reivindicaciones del feminismo. Al contrario que en otros países de nuestro entorno, donde se alzaron, desde muy temprano, voces reclamando esta equidad, en España este movimiento se hizo esperar hasta finales del siglo XIX. Solo algunos pioneros, como Concepción Arenal, se atrevieron a cuestionar el papel de la mujer y su sumisión al hombre antes de esta fecha. El presente trabajo analiza la obra de esta ilustre tratadista, ahondando en la crítica que realiza al ordenamiento jurídico vigente y en sus propuestas dirigidas a mejorar la condición de las ciudadanas.

The right to equality has historically been one of the most important demands of feminism. Unlike in other countries around us, in which voices were raised very early claiming this equality, in Spain this movement did not appear until the end of the 19th century. Only a few pioneers, such as Concepción Arenal, dared to question the role of women and their submission to men before this date. This paper analyses the work of this illustrious author, analysing in depth her criticism of the current legal system and her proposals aimed at improving the status of female citizens.
