Los riesgos laborales a los que están expuestas las personas trabajadoras que se dedican a la pesca y la gravedad de los mismos, debido en gran parte a las condiciones especiales en las que se desarrolla el trabajo de la pesca, hacen que esta actividad tenga unos índices de siniestralidad muy altos. El buque de pesca, como centro de trabajo y domicilio, y el mar, como medio en el que se desarrollan el trabajo y las condiciones laborales, hacen que la seguridad y salud de las personas trabajadoras sea muy difícil de garantizar. De ahí que sea necesario realizar un análisis de esas condiciones o características especiales que tiene la pesca y de la normativa existente, para poder dilucidar y poner de relieve las dificultades y las causas por las que se produce esa alta siniestralidad.

The occupational risks the fishermen are exposed to and the severity of those, that are mostly due to the special conditions in which the fishing labours happen, makes the fishing activity have a very high accident rate. The fishing vessel, as a workplace and a home, the sea as the place where the job is developed and the working conditions, make the security and the health of the fishermen difficult to ensure, That why it is necessary to make an analysis of those conditions and special feature that the fishing has and the already existing regulation, in order to elucidate and to highllight the difficulties and causes of such a high accident rate.
