Frente a la ola de cambios políticos en el Magreb iniciado por el derrocamiento de los dictadores tunecino y egipcio, Argelia no ha permanecido inmune. Tanto el gobierno, sintiéndose amenazado por el movimiento de protesta creciente, como la sociedad civil están reaccionando ante esta nueva coyuntura. A pesar de la presencia de factores inhibidores propios a la historia reciente de Argelia como a la singularidad de su sistema político el proceso de reforma está en marcha y la sociedad civil puede desempeñar un papel clave.

Facing the wave of political change in North Africa initiated by the overthrow of Tunisian and Egyptian dictators, Algeria has not remained immune. Both the government, feeling threatened by the growing protest movement, and civil society are reacting to this new situation. Despite the presence of inhibiting factors of its own recent history of Algeria and to the uniqueness of its political system, its reform process is underway and civil society can play a key role.
