El autor analiza, a partir de las fuentes documentales y testimoniales, los últimos días de vida del ilustrado Jovellanos, desde su partida forzosa del puerto de Gijón hasta que exhaló su último suspiro en la casa del generoso hidalgo Antonio Trelles Osorio. Así mismo, sostiene que la arribada al pequeño puerto, lejos de ser fortuita como se ha venido afirmando hasta nuestros días, se debió a los lazos familiares de Valdés Llanos en la villa naviega, mientras documenta y se posiciona sobre algunas de las controversias que atañen a la compleja biografía de Jovellanos.
The author analyses, on the basis of testimony and documentary sources, the last days of this figure of the Enlightenment Jovellanos, from the moment of his forced departure from the port of Gijón until he breathed his last in the home of the generous gentleman Antonio Trelles Osorio. He also argues that his arrival to the small port, far from being fortuitous, as has been said up to now, was due to the family ties of Valdes Llanos in the village. He also documents and makes clear his position on some of the controversies regarding the complex biography of Jovellanos.
