Clarissimae feminae: daughters and wives of senators in roman literary and legal sources - Karen María Vilacoba Ramos

La sociedad romana, casi desde sus orígenes, contará con mujeres que van a formar parte de los sucesos más relevantes de su historia. Las mujeres prominentes, tanto en época republicana como imperial, se convertirán en los modelos femeninos a imitar, en su condición de matronas romanas. Las mujeres e hijas de senadores tuvieron una clara influencia en la vida pública, tanto en Roma como en provincias, a partir del estrecho margen de actuación que les permitía el Estado romano. El estudio de las fuentes literarias y jurídicas permiten perfilar el mundo femenino de estas matronas pertenecientes a la élite política, económica y social de Roma.

Roman society, almost from its origins, will have women who will be part of the most important events in its history. Prominent women, both in the Republican and Imperial periods, became the female role models in their capacity as Roman matrons. The women and daughters of senators had a clear influence on public life, both in Rome and in the provinces, based on the narrow margin of action that the Roman state allowed them. The study of literary and legal sources provides an insight into the female world of these matrons who belonged to the political, economic and social elite of Rome.
