Al tiempo, ha fracasado el intento de trasladar la descentralización política a territorio inglés, mientras que la autonomía norirlandesa en suspenso se encuentra en vías de restauración. Pero el asunto que ha suscitado un mayor debate político y jurídico en el Reino Unido en los últimos años ha sido el originado con la legislación antiterrorista y su incompatibilidad con la CEDH, lo cual ha traído consigo la respuesta parlamentaria y jurisdiccional a algunas de las medidas limitadoras de derechos propuestas por el gobierno laborista.
