Quienes defienden el régimen de Franco aducen para su justificación el orden que impuso en el país, la neutralidad durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y el desarrollo económico. En este breve artículo se dice que son argumentos poco convincentes. En realidad, la historia de España, con sus muchos enfrentamientos internos desde el siglo XIX, hacía casi inevitable la Guerra Civil y la larga dictadura, antes de alcanzar libertad, estabilidad y prosperidad.

Franco's defenders justify his regime with the order introduced in the country, the neutrality in World War II and the economic development. In this short paper, these arguments are regarded as non convincing. In fact, the Spanish history, with the many domestic strifes since the 19th century, made almost inevitable the Civil War and the long dictatorship before the achievement of freedom, political stability and economic development.
