Conmemoración de las festividades. Una aproximación desde la laicidad. (RI §420061)

Commemoration of festivities: an approach from the point of view of secularism - Adoración Castro Jover

The study of religious festivities and the weekly rest shows how the compromises assumed by the State in the Agreement with the Holy See will determinate, in a big way, the labour calendar of festivities. The consequence will be an identification between public institutions and the Catholic religion that will be favoured beyond the limits required by the religious freedom. By doing so, it will not be easy to adequate this labour calendar in a society that is becoming more complex, with an increasing number of non-believers, and believers in other religions, in which the migratory flows are carrying other cultures. The identification of public powers with the dominant religious culture will have as a consequence a damaging impact on equality that will affect, mostly, to religious minorities. Additionally, it will question the role of the principle of State´s secularity as a guarantee for the equality of believers and non-believers.
