De acuerdo con la jurisprudencia comunitaria, y a pesar del constante acercamiento entre el estatuto jurídico del matrimonio con otras uniones civiles entre parejas de igual o distinto sexo, los Estados miembros de la Unión Europa gozan de derecho de regular el estado civil de sus ciudadanos sin poder imponerles la obligación de reconocer el llamado matrimonio homosexual.

According with the UE jurisprudence, and in spite of the constant approximation between the legal status of marriage with other civil unions between couples of the same or different sex, the States of the European Union have the right to regulate the civil status of their citizens without being able to impose on them the obligation to recognize same sex marriage.
