El presente trabajo aborda la situación de la Iglesia en los años previos al inicio de la Reforma luterana. Tras un recorrido historiográfico sobre sus orígenes, se analizan las voces que reclaman una reforma de la curia romana desde el Imperio (Gravamina Nationis Germanicae) y España, con especial detenimiento en los memoriales preparatorios a la participación en el concilio Latenano V (1512-1517) que solicitó Fernando el Católico a algunos prelados castellanos. En apéndice se publican las instrucciones del rey Católico a los embajadores enviados al concilio.

This essay will address the situation of the church in years previous to the Lutheran reformation. After a historiographic tour throughout the origins of the Reformation, voices that claimed a reform of Roman Curia from the Empire (Gravamina Nationis Germanicae) and from Spain are analyzed, with special detail in preparatory memorials for the Fifth Council of the Lateran (1512-1517) the Ferdinand the Catholic requested to some Castilian Prelates. In appendix the instructions of the Catholic king to the ambassadors sent to the council are published.
