Religious freedom and family in Chile: tensions and challenges - Carmen Domínguez H.

La relevancia reconocida al matrimonio religioso en el ordenamiento jurídico del Estado chileno ha experimentado una evolución en el tiempo. No obstante, la última reforma habida a la legislación del matrimonio civil introdujo ciertas reglas o principios que pueden parecer curiosos, lo mismo que los debates que ellas han planteado con posterioridad. Por otra parte, la concepción prevalente en Chile del matrimonio, de origen católico, está siendo cuestionada por la legislación más reciente mostrando una progresiva indiferencia hacia el matrimonio religioso.

The relevance of religious marriage recognized in the law of the Chilean State has undergone an evolution over the time. However, the latest reform passed in the civil marriage legislation has introduced some particular rules or principles that may seem curious. And so with the debates that have arisen after it. In another hand, the prevailing conception in Chile of marriage that has a catholic origin, is beginning to be questioned by some new legislation who announces an indifference or a reluctance to religious marriage.
