Las Cooperativas de Trabajo Social desempeñan un papel esencial en la Economía Social. A tal efecto, se analiza su evolución normativa y su configuración jurisprudencial, tratando aspectos como la calificación jurídica de la prestación laboral, la relación de seguridad social y, especialmente, la tutela y protección de los trabajadores y la compleja posición jurídica del socio trabajador, poniendo de relieve la insuficiencia del régimen de protección del desempleo y la necesidad de renovar y modernizar su marco jurídico general, particularmente en el contexto de la crisis económica.

Social Work Cooperatives play a vital role in the Social Economy. To this end, its normative evolution and its jurisprudential configuration are analysed treating aspects in relation to legal classification of the work performed, Social Security relations and, especially, guardianship and protection of workers and the complex legal position of socio worker. It is highlighted the failures of unemployment protection system as well as the need to renew and modernize its overall legal framework, particularly in the context of the Economic Crisis.
