La República francesa es puesta como ejemplo de Estado unitario y centralista en el que las singularidades territoriales quedaron abolidas con el triunfo de la Revolución francesa que implantó un modelo jacobino basado en la uniformidad de las instituciones y en la concepción de unos mismos derechos para todos los ciudadanos franceses. Esta visión, sin embargo, se ha ido matizando a través del reconocimiento constitucional y normativo de determinadas especificidades de tipo administrativo en la Francia metropolitana a la que se han ido sumando también singularidades referidas a determinadas poblaciones del ultramar francés.

The French Republic is put as example of unitary and centralist State in which the territorial singularities remained abolished with the victory of the French Revolution that there implanted a Jacobin model based on the uniformity of the institutions and on the conception of the same rights for all the French citizens. This vision, nevertheless, has been tinted across the constitutional and normative recognition of certain specificities of administrative type in the metropolitan France to which there have been adding also some singularities referred to certain populations of the French overseas.
